Javan Leopard Monitoring Unit

The Javan Leopard or in Latin Panthera Pardus Melas is a species of big cat, this protected animal is included in the list of endangered species, in the wild the population is recorded below 250 individuals spread across several National Parks and conservation areas on the island of Java, including in Ujungkulon National Park.

Its existence in the Ujung Kulon National Park has not become a serious concern, therefore we from the OFORA Trus foundation initiated to hold a
Monitoring activity, this activity is the first time carried out In Ujungkulon National Park, so far there has not been a single conservation organization that has drewed special attention to this big cat species, OFORA Trust Foundation due to limited funds available, we have only been able to form 1 team consisting of 3 people local community and 1 person from ujungkulon National Park ranger.

Our team personnel are recruited from the field team who have long experience in monitoring the Javan rhinoceros.
So we don't need  to teach them anymore how to install camera video traps, they are also a formidable team who are used to going through the jungle and going up and down mountains.
The first activity of installing 15 video camera traps has been carried out for 10 days, from 16 to 26 October 2021 in the Mount Payung area with an altitude of 430 MDPL.

Out come activities:

Mitigating conflicts between javan leopards and humans.

Collecting raw data as identification material to determine the population of the Javan leopard.

Availability of a map of the distribution of the Javan leopard on the Ujungkulon peninsula.
